The News &amp; Content unit of the University of Virginia’s <a href="https://communications.virginia.edu/" target="_blank">Office of Communications</a> seeks a Senior Editor to help us tell the dynamic story of UVA and to advance its strategic priorities through content that engages with and grows a multitude of audiences.
This position would be ideal for a seasoned, mature editor at a daily newspaper, magazine or online publication with significant deadline experience and a track record of working with writers to generate compelling stories and improve copy.
The Senior Editor, reporting to the UVA Today Managing Editor, will oversee several direct reports; edit copy for grammar, accuracy, and adherence to Associated Press and local style; and research and write stories as needed. The ideal candidate will be a sharp-eyed, detail-focused journalist who efficiently shepherds daily stories through the editing process while also taking the time to help writers improve their craft. He or she will be attuned to news and current events and be able to quickly identify opportunities to showcase UVA’s students, faculty and staff in the context of the day’s key stories and issues.
Our Content &amp; News team operates a high-quality newsroom that values timeliness and urgency in its content, and collaborates to produce one of higher education’s most successful news products, and the most important strategic communications platform at the University. The <a href="https://news.virginia.edu/" target="_blank">UVA Today</a> Daily Report is delivered Monday through Friday to more than 150,000 recipients, and our UVA Today content attracts more than &nbsp;5 million page views annually.

Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Edit daily stories for the University’s news outlets to ensure UVA Today’s writing is concise, compelling, and accurate.</li>
<li>Supervise and coach writers.</li>
<li>Assist in story planning so content aligns with and advances UVA’s strategic priorities.</li>
<li>Collaborate with University News &amp; Content colleagues to ensure that storylines selected for emphasis get maximum exposure through the platforms and products managed in University Communications, including social media, digital marketing, and paid content.</li>
<li>Foster productive working relationships with sources across Grounds for coordination, story mining and proactive media relations.</li>
<li>Track owned and earned media progress and measure success using metrics gathered by tools such as Google Data Studio, Parse.ly, etc.</li>

Job Description
We are looking Peer advisors/ Assistants to serve our Yreka community.
&nbsp;Reporting to the Program Supervisor or Program Manager, the Peer Assistant will support individuals on their journey to recovery and wellness. Peer Assistants support a range of services aimed at fostering physical, emotional, and mental well-being in a supportive and inclusive environment. Peer Assistants play a vital role in providing support, guidance, and encouragement to individuals striving to achieve their recovery goals. Drawing from their own lived experience Peer Assistants will serve as a role model and advocate, helping clients navigate challenges and celebrate successes along the way.
Duties/Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Peer Support: Offer empathetic listening and understanding to individuals participating in recovery programs.</li>
<li>Provide peer counseling and mentoring on a one-to-one basis, either over the telephone or in person.</li>
<li>Role Modeling: Share personal experiences of recovery and wellness to inspire hope and demonstrate that recovery is possible.</li>
<li>Advocacy: Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the wellness center and the broader community.</li>
<li>Resource Navigation: Assist clients in accessing relevant resources, such as support groups, employment assistance, and educational opportunities.</li>
<li>Provide linkage to crisis services if appropriate.</li>
<li>Educate peers/families about coping skills and self-care strategies.</li>
<li>Documentation: Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress, adhering to confidentiality and privacy protocols.</li>
<li>Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other staff members, including case managers, and volunteers, to ensure holistic support for clients.</li>
</ul>
Required Skills/Abilities:
<ul>
<li>Lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use disorder, or other recovery journeys.</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse individuals.</li>
<li>Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.</li>
<li>Empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental attitude toward others.</li>
<li>Ability to maintain professional boundaries and handle sensitive information with discretion.</li>
<li>Familiarity with county mental health systems and services.</li>
<li>Commitment to self-care and personal wellness practices.</li>
<li>Ability to work in environments with moderate noise levels, including conversations, background music.</li>
<li>Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging or emotionally charged situations.</li>
<li>Punctuality and regular attendance.</li>
<li>Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.</li>
</ul>
Physical Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.</li>
<li>Must be able to move freely around the Center, including standing, walking, bending and reaching.</li>
<li>Basic phone skills.</li>
<li>Must be able to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for clients and staff, including proper disposal of waste and regular cleaning.</li>
<li>Must be able to adhere to process protocol including safety.</li>
<li>Moves equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.</li>
<li>Basic computer skills including ability to use email and access online trainings.</li>
</ul>
Education and Experience:
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma or GED; additional education may be helpful but is not required.</li>
<li>Certification or training in peer support services, optional.</li>
</ul>
Work Schedule:
