Overview: The Oakton Archives Student Employee will assist in supporting Oakton Archive's historical collections through digitization and archival processing. Primary responsibilities include high-resolution scanning of photographs and historical documents, creating descriptive metadata for digital assets, maintaining precise records via tracking spreadsheets, and assisting with the initial processing of new acquisitions. This processing includes basic preservation tasks such as rehousing materials into archival-quality folders and boxes. Additionally, the student may provide occasional public service by interacting with patrons and retrieving archival materials. This role offers hands-on experience with archival standards, metadata entry, and the physical handling of unique primary source materials.

Length of Employment: Spring 2026; with opportunity to renew.
Hours Available: Varies based on assignment, 5-15 hours a week
Schedule Flexibility: Student schedule will fluctuate based on what assignments are accepted/refused. Once accepted, students are expected to follow through with their determined schedule with minimal adjustments.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Learning Outcomes
∙ Perform accepted assignments as described in the terms outlined by the supervisor.

∙ Proficiency in standard to high-resolution digitization and metadata entry for long-term accessibility.

Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities)
- Must be a currently enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer, or students continuing registration into the following Fall semester.
- Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.
- Able to lift and move archival storage boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Demonstrated reliability and responsibility.
- Friendly, flexible, organized, courteous, and punctuality a must.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills with strong detail orientation preferred. ● Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office and Google technology (GSUITE) preferred ● Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Ability to complete assignments at Des Plaines campus is required.
