The Athletic Coordinator serves as the primary operational lead supporting the Recreation Manager Athletics by managing day-to-day logistics, staffing coordination, scheduling, communication, and issue resolution. This role is designed to proactively prevent problems, quickly resolve challenges, and maintain continuity of operations so that no program is compromised due to staffing gaps, miscommunication, or unforeseen issues.
The Athletic Coordinator will plan, implement, and oversee a variety of youth and community athletic programs including rec basketball, travel basketball, soccer, t-ball, tournaments, softball, flag football and a variety of youth and adult sporting events.
The ideal candidate is passionate about creating safe, engaging, and inclusive sports experiences that foster skill development, confidence, and fun for participants of all ages. The hours for this position are primarilySaturday and Sunday (20 hours weekly, with a range of 8am - 7pm, depending on the event schedule), plus a few occasional weekday events in the afternoon/early evening.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and supervise the sports programs, including scheduling games, practices, and
tournaments.
Oversee youth athletic programs and special sports events.
Recruit, train, and supervise coaches, referees, and volunteers.
Maintain program schedules, participant registrations, and program records.
Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, participants, and staff regarding sport
programs.
Ensure compliance with all safety, risk management, and department policies.
Monitor inventory, and equipment needs for sports programs.
Prepare post-season reports and provide recommendations for program improvements.
Perform all job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma is required, additional coursework or education in parks and recreation, sports management, or a related field highly preferred.
Experience:
Experience supervising part-time, seasonal staff and volunteers required.
Experience with administration coordination, scheduling and customer service required.
Athletic or recreational programming experience (coaching and referee for multiple sports) is highly preferred.
Certifications:
CPR/AED/First Aid certification required or obtainable within 90 days.
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
