Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A K-12 educational institution in Arabi, LA is seeking a skilled Visually Impaired Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support for students with visual impairments. This contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic school environment, helping students develop essential academic and life skills tailored to their unique needs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and other adaptive skills
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, staff, and families to ensure accommodations and modifications are effectively integrated
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, adjusting instruction as needed
- Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in teaching students with visual impairments, or equivalent credentials
- Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional methods
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs
