Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A K-12 school in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to provide essential support for students with visual impairments. This contract position covers the current school year (CSY) and requires a professional skilled in orientation and mobility techniques to enhance student independence and safety.

Responsibilities:

Conduct assessments to determine students orientation and mobility needs
Develop and implement individualized mobility plans for K-12 students
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to support student success
Teach safe travel techniques and use of assistive devices
Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to promote independence
Maintain detailed documentation of student goals and achievements

Qualifications:

Certification or experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
Proven ability to work effectively with K-12 students with visual impairments
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Knowledge of assistive technology and mobility aids
Ability to develop individualized plans based on student needs
