Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A K-12 educational institution in Kansas City, KS is seeking a dedicated and skilled Visually Impaired Teacher to support students with visual impairments. This contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing specialized instruction tailored to the unique learning needs of students with visual challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and evaluate students visual impairments to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Deliver instruction using appropriate methods and materials, including Braille, large print, and assistive technology.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to ensure effective inclusion and accessibility.
  • Provide orientation and mobility training to promote student independence.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain detailed records and participate in IEP meetings.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in visual impairment.
  • Experience working with K-12 students who have low vision or blindness.
  • Strong understanding of adaptive technologies and instructional strategies for visually impaired learners.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for supporting student success.
