Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Provide expert orientation and mobility services for K-12 students requiring specialized support in navigating their educational environments. This contract position based in Rockport, TX, is ideal for professionals passionate about enhancing independence and safety for visually impaired or blind students throughout the school year (CSY).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students orientation and mobility needs within school settings.
- Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans.
- Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers.
- Conduct direct instruction and training to promote safe travel skills.
- Monitor progress and update strategies to meet evolving student goals.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable educational and disability laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
- Experience working in K-12 educational environments.
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology and travel aids.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learner needs.
