Daycare Teacher Assistant (FOR CHILDREN OF AGE 1-5 y.o.)

We offer early childhood programs, summer day camps, after-school and other fun and engaging programs for families
A Substitute Teacher supervises and teaches students in the event that their Regular Teacher is unable to lead the class. Substitute Teachers work for Kings Bay Y / JCC Brooklyn schools to offer emergency support for classrooms, fill long-term absences or help cover a class during a transition period. They accept assignments on a flexible schedule and may be called to fill in the morning of the school day
Main Responsibilities:
- Follow lesson plans provided by the Regular Teacher
- Encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment while Regular Teacher is absent
- Track attendance, collect homework and provide general supervision during class periods
- Work with students individually or as a group/adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student and to keep up with the regular curriculum
- Manage and instruct the class effectively from roll call to tidying up the classroom after the students have left
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground
- For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the Regular Teacher’s past lesson plans
Qualifications:
- Early Childhood Education (at least 2 years) or Substitute certificate
- Experience in leading and instructing childcare students – at least 1 year
- General knowledge of several subjects
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- Flexibility and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Needs to have:
- Fingerprinted by IdentoGo
- CPR/First Aid
- Mandated reporter
- SCR clearance
Schedule:
This is a part-time position that can lead to a full-time contract for any open positions available. School is open: 8 am – 6 pm
- After-School Shift: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- Additional hours: On-call for earlier shifts as needed
Salary:
Salary: $20.00 per hour
