Job DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced College Essay Instructor to guide high school students through the college application essay process. This in-person position requires a strong writing background, a passion for mentorship, and the ability to help students find and express their authentic voice. Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant teaching, tutoring, or writing instruction experience.
Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one or in small groups to brainstorm, develop, and refine personal statements and supplemental essays.
- Provide detailed, constructive feedback to improve clarity, structure, and impact.
- Keep students on track with timelines and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate student progress records.
- Communicate regularly with the counseling team to ensure students’ essays align with their application strategy.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree (completed)
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching/tutoring writing or working in college counseling/admissions
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to work in-person at our San Jose center
Preferred:
- Experience guiding students through selective college application essays
- Familiarity with Common App and UC PIQ formats
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate students
Job Type: Part-time
Schedule: Afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends as needed
