Job Title: Summer Preschool Assistant Teacher

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes, summer preschool aides
Classification: Seasonal, Part-Time; Non-exempt

Work Environment: Outdoor nature setting. Landis Woods Park: 2369 Lititz Pike
Summary: The Summer Preschool Assistant Teacher assists the Preschool Teacher and aides with the day-to-day operations of the program, including the supervision of the students and interaction with parents. Working hours for this position are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30am-1pm for the duration of the 10-week program running June-August. Select mandatory training schedule will be provided by Recreation Department manager. This program takes place exclusively outdoors.
Essential Functions
- Assist the teaching staff with implementing curriculum in a way that is consistent with the unique needs of each child and incorporates elements of the natural world.
- Take over Lead Teacher responsibilities in that employee's absence.
- Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn in nature.
- Support the program's success; partner with staff and leadership to achieve goals.
- Cultivate positive relationships with nature while meeting the educational and developmental needs of the students.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to talk, hear, and see.
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
- Ability to supervise students in multiple environments including in nature on trails, fields, and woodlands.
Skills:
- Teaching children under the age of 5
Abilities:
- Speak clearly and effectively for children with varying skill levels.
Competencies
- Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
- Required legal background checks
- Willingness to engage with parents and communicate about their student's growth and success.
- Knowledge of English word usage, spelling, and punctuation.
Regularly Scheduled Hours:
- Tues, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30am-1:15pm for the duration of the 10-week program running June-August
Required Education and Experience
- Be a graduate of an approved, 2-year college or university having specialized in child development, early childhood or elementary education
-OR-
Have completed a minimum of 2 years of college or university credit, totaling 60 credits, in an approved institution and submit documentary evidence of successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours in the theory of child development, early childhood, or elementary education
-AND-
- 1 year childcare experience
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
Preferred Education and Experience
- Graduate of an approved 4- year college or university with a Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education
- 1 year teaching experience
