The Art Department at Augustana University, a rigorous, undergraduate-focused, private liberal arts institution, invites applications for a full-time (3-1-3) tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Art in Digital/New Media beginning Fall 2026.
Primary Responsibilities: (1) Instruction of digital/new media studio courses for B.A. and B.F.A. art majors and non-majors, (2) developing digital/new media curricula in collaboration with the Art Department and multimedia entrepreneurship program, (3) maintaining an active record of creative scholarship/professional work, (3) advising undergraduates, and (4) service to the University community. We encourage applicants whose digital knowledge in immersive, interactive, experimental and time-based practices is substantial. The successful candidate will typically teach Digital Media I, Advanced Digital Media, digital photography and/or courses based on the candidate’s expertise.
Faculty will teach three courses each fall and spring semesters, and one course during January interim; the new-hire will have course-development release time during their first January and will teach every two out of three J-terms thereafter.
Qualifications: MFA in digital/new media, video, interactive media, multimedia, graphic design, or related field. Professional/industry experience required and previous college-level teaching experience preferred. The successful candidate will embrace the opportunity to develop new curricula and programming, and demonstrate a commitment to pedagogy that embraces high-impact teaching practices to produce inquisitive students ready to creatively problem solve in our contemporary world. Interacting with students, faculty, and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view is essential. We encourage candidates whose competencies in the formal elements of design are evident in their own practice and that of their students’ work. A deep appreciation of the liberal arts, and a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students must be a top value of the candidate.
