Summary

Village Green Nursery School (VGNS) is seeking a warm, flexible, and reliable Floater Teacher to support our play-based nursery school program. VGNS is dedicated to providing a caring, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment that reflects each child’s interests and abilities. Our goal is to nurture curiosity, foster independence, and help children discover the joy of learning in a positive preschool experience.

The Floater Teacher plays an essential role in supporting classroom teachers, children, and the daily operations of the school. This position requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and the ability to step into various classrooms and routines as needed.

Position Details

  • Part-time position: 10–15 hours per week
  • Schedule may vary based on school needs; additional hours may be available at the discretion of the Director.
  • VGNS is a school-year program, operating from late August through mid-June, and is closed during the summer.



Duties

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Provide classroom coverage and support across age groups as needed, following VGNS policies and procedures and state regulations.
  • Work under the direction of the Head Teacher and/or designated classroom teacher to support daily classroom activities and routines.
  • Review lesson plans as appropriate and assist with preparing materials and learning centers.
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, transitions, and indoor/outdoor play, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision and state-required child-to-staff ratios at all times.
  • Use positive guidance and developmentally appropriate behavior management strategies.
  • Encourage self-help skills and good hygiene through positive role modeling.
  • Support smooth daily transitions, including arrivals and departures.
  • Maintain frequent, respectful communication with families through informal conversations and progress updates, as directed.
  • Assist with classroom setup, organization, and end-of-day cleanup.
  • Attend required staff meetings, including the annual meeting covering school policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Maintain an individual professional development plan to support ongoing learning and continuous quality improvement.



Requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings.
  • Interest in early childhood education and working with young children in a play-based setting.
  • Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to multitask.
  • Positive attitude, teamwork skills, and a commitment to clear and respectful communication with staff and families.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and teaching styles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Administration of Medication and Epi-Pen training, or willingness to obtain.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to assume low postures to interact with children, see and hear well enough to ensure safety, and engage in physical activity.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
