We are locking for a Material Scientist who can providing technical expertise on material composition, phase diagrams, semiconductor functionality, including common and exotic materials such as: SST, C22, Aluminum alloys, braze alloys.
The Brazing Engineer will have a multi-functional role to:
- Execute data-based thinking and decision making
- Remotely support factory in Mexico, occasional travel may be required
- Develop and support manufacturing process of Therm-x’s vertically integrated heater factories.
- Assist with Design, develop optimize and qualify vacuum furnace brazing processes and fixtures for various products and materials
- Design and implement custom tooling and automated processes
- Develop OMSs for Pre-braze and braze assemblies
- Understand vacuum furnace base operations: roughing pumps, diffusion pumps, thermal controls.
- Evaluate incoming materials for surface finish, flatness, cleanliness
- Evaluate braze process results, braze line, voids, leak integrity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities;
- Provide technical assistance on projects supporting the manufacturing divisions with expertise in material science.
- Furnace Braze Qualification per applicable AWS/ASME Codes
- Torch and Induction braze qualifications per applicable AWS/ASME codes
- Qualify Welders and braze technicians per applicable AWS/ASME codes
- Write clear, concise documentation of OMS (Operational Method Sheets) and procedures
- Support Weld Engineer with weld qualification documentation
- Supports manufacturing process documentation, implementation, and continuous improvement
- Supports lean manufacturing process improvement projects
- Support design of custom packaging
- Support manufacturing and coordination, execution and operations process development
- Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required
- Evaluate production and NPI parts with DFM in mind by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, soliciting observations from technicians
- Specify tooling or equipment required to manufacture product per customer requirements within budgeted cost and lead time
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Determine root cause of defects and nonconformance of processes and will be able to disposition product.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and contract manufacturers as needed
- Spend time observing and gathering feedback how current processes are working and report back to management with findings.
Competencies
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project
- Skills with 3D design packages such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor
- Knowledge of vacuum furnace, torch and induction brazing with academic experience on how to qualify braze joints per applicable codes such as AWS B1.2.
- Strong skills in GD&T per ANSI Y14.5
- Read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints and electrical schematics
- Read bill of materials and identify all components specified
- Self-motivated, requiring minimum supervision
- CWI/CWE is highly desirable

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Materials, Welding, or Joining Engineering with 2+ years of experience desired. Master of Science or PHD is preferred.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
